The new year seems to be off to a good start in the collectibles world. While talking with other dealers in the field, there seems to be a greater demand for coins, gold, silver and other higher ticket items. I have been experiencing the same type of activity here at the store as well. Why we need to preserve the past for the future!  Many times people come to me with items from family not knowing where else to go, or what do with them.  It seems personal values have drastically changed over a very short period of time. Many things as pretty much "disposable" these days, and most could care less about passing something meaningful down to a loved one or friend. What happened to the good old days when people dreamed about getting Uncle Joe’s WW2 jacket, or Grammies locket she got from her mother!  Many folks have lost touch with what seems to be a part of our heritage, and most importantly, our countries history. Next time you are gifting, think of something very meaningful or historical, and take the time to explain why this "item" should be treasured forever. Putting values back in their proper order will make for a much brighter future.

Some further drops this week in both gold and silver prices. These are very attractive price levels, and a might be a good time to consider adding precious metals to the collection or portfolio. One must remember never to go heavy in any one thing, as this can prove to be a dangerous move. Too many times we have seen people go overboard when they think something is at an all time low. Unfortunately, the days of buy and hold forever are over, in my humble opinion. One must keep a very close eye on any investment they hold. Whether it be Collectible Toys, Art, Coins, Stocks, or anything that can be affected by the overall eonomy or world events. Stay cool and buy what you like, but most importantly, what you can afford!

Current market conditions for WW1 & WW2 military combat helmets. As many items in the field of military collecting have plateaued in price, or in some instances, decreased, there are some bright areas that remain very strong! I must say the combat helmets of WW1 & WW2 remain very much in demand! I have not seen any significant increases in price, but very little, if any decreases. Collectors ethusiastically pursue these artifacts, whether it’s American, German, Japanese, Italian, Russian or French, there just isn’t enough to keep up with demands. In my humble opinion, it’s a very good place to park your investemnt dollars if you are in this field.

A great time for purchasing precious metal items such as coins, bullion and jewelry as the prices of silver & gold are at very reasonable levels. Based on how the economy is currently doing, we should see these levels for a while, barring any unforseen events. A good place to have some money in just as a hedge!
